Nervous
03:24
|
|||
Well I know a boy or two with cars
But I’ve never wanted love, I only want the stars
And some call it focus
I guess they never noticed
That I can’t move out from familiar feet
And everything sways to this broken beat
Maybe I don’t do it on purpose
Maybe parts of me they still get nervous
I got my name down on the page
But sometimes the mirror blurs and its not the same
That’s when my words outrun the rest of me
And some call it focus
I guess they never noticed

Numb and Blue
03:43
|
|||
You said it's all in time
It’s what we chose to hold on to and how tight
On this sleepless night
It’s the way you drive
And all the Bob Dylan you pretend to like
You’d be glad
You’d be glad to hear I’m out of poetry
‘Cause these days words come about as easy as sleep
But when I speak
I’m saying things I never thought applied to people like me
And oh, can you see my fingers numb and blue
From trying to hold on to you
You say there’s too much music
Too much thought inside my head
But if you want to be my friend then why’d you lie
I should have known you’d be
Just as reckless with me
And I guess I’m just as naive
As the warned me I would be

Folded Maps
03:11
|
|||
These days my name’s a little clearer
On the page than in the mirror
Sometimes I run, run like the kid I know I am
But I still smile every time you call me friend
Folded maps. folded maps of the north side of Boston
We were late ‘cause we lost it
I stole the stories from your empty cups of coffee
All the words I found in that passenger seat, proud to be
The last working tape machine on the highway
Maybe I’ll learn to read those maps one day

She took my hand like she does when she wants to say something
Crooked smile, like a kid who’s about to break something
And she says “how do you feel about the ocean?”
And I pull my chair in smiling
Because I’ve got a seat
Next to the only one asking that kind of question
And oh, she is more than the music
She is more than Bob Dylan to me
She is booze and blueberries
From her seat in the last row
She sings with her eyes closed
The band looks around
Everyone in the room knows and I
Look them all back smiling
‘Cause I’ve got a seat
Next to her and her harmonies
And oh, she is more than the music
She is more than Bob Dylan to me
She is booze and blueberries
She is eighteen, asleep in the sand dunes
Finding words that she believes enough to scream
And she is booze and blueberries
She is understated harmonies
She is talking, she is telling this to me
Oh she is more than the music
She is more than she knows she is to me
She is booze and blueberries

Say What You Mean
02:42
|
|||
I thought I got away
But you must have caught hold on something
Marked my walls with your paint
Left some beautiful stain for me later
When I wasn’t looking
And maybe I’m about to be a different kind of crazy
Than you planned on
But you’ve been talking smart and slow and we both know
If I go insane who the blame’s on
It’s all 'cause your kiss it still tastes like the words you just said
And I can’t get them out of my mouth or my head
And I called just to say that I won’t go to sleep
Until you say what you mean
Sometimes I find peace in the walk home
But not from you, oh no
You flooded my blood with some grip that won’t let go

Make Some Good
04:19
|

I guess it's been a while, I owe you something honest
But its always more for me than for you
And lately I’ve been trying to simplify
I guess that was my only excuse not to
So don’t ask me what I did with all that freedom
‘Cause there were nights I couldn’t breathe
But I found friends who had never seen the ocean
And I took them home with me
I’d say I stole you Boston, I cheated you out of your best qualities
I’ve got your mischief in a jar and all your jazz inside my car
Your spirit knotted ‘round the veins inside of me
And you’ll see
That I’m gonna make some good of who you’ve made me
I made peace with crossing streets
And some days woke up wanting rain
Just to be drenched in some reminder
Of all the ways I’d rearranged
